Things To Do Whilst In Isolation

So yes, we all understand that isolation is not as fun as we first thought, we’re all starting to be very bored of it and are getting in endless fights with the people that we live with (sorry flatmate). But we have to do it for the good of our country and the world and with no end in sight as yet, here are a few ideas to get you relaxing and realising that this is a great opportunity to unwind…

Go for a walk: This might seem an obvious one as it is in your daily allowance for leaving the house, but, do not underestimate the goodness that walk can do for you. Also with the lack of cars on the roads and planes in the sky, embrace the return to nature that our world is currently feeling! Also take this time to explore the area that you live in. I guarantee that you normally go from A to B without ever looking for alternative routes or just taking in the scenery. This is what the working week has done to us and here we have an opportunity to get out of that and really look around us.

Do that thing that you have been putting off: It could be updating your music library, sorting out your photos or wardrobe but whatever it is, most of us are lucky enough to be able to work from home. This means that we have 0 commute time, put that newfound time to good use and start on one of those tasks that you have been dreading.

Clean your room/flat/house: No I don’t mean clean, I mean spring clean. I have sorted through every drawer, wardrobe, cupboard and pile of crap and it feels so good. As you will be spending more time in this confined space, it makes sense to clean it out. Sort through your books/dvds and send to friends/charity/ebay. Finally go through your clothes and chuck away anything that has a hole in it, is discoloured or just looks old. Also chuck out those clothes that you never wear but are keeping ‘just in case’. Feng shui your room and discover a whole new appreciation for your little space. Also if you are renting the flat only consists of kitchen bathroom and bedroom, this is essential as you are going to be stuck in this living space for at least a month! Clean behind furniture and clean those things that you always forget for a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction in somewhere that you call home.

Make a start on your TBR list: I have one of the biggest, and seeing as I am not commuting for 2 hours everyday I have decided to put that time to good use and read. I have started small in making sure that I read 50 pages a day and having a ‘finish by’ date. This has worked out so well that I am reading more that 50 pages a day and falling back in love with reading (to find out what I have been reading click here). This is one thing you won’t regret when we eventually have to go back to the daily grind.

Make a start on your watch later list: Same as above but this applies to Netflix, Disney plus, youtube whatever. Get started, added things because you were too tired to watch a whole film after work, well now you aren’t. Added it because you want to watch it but needed to be at home, now you are! You put it on there for a reason, now watch it or finally delete it!

Have a pamper: Paint your nails, have a bath, use a face pack. Whatever you do, find time for you, take an hour or two to really relax. Light candles/incense sticks, put on some relaxing music, use those toiletries that are meant for longer treatment like face or hair masks. Just take an hour to escape and feel better for it.

Start a creative activity: Whether it is to finally start that colouring book you got for christmas or get around to starting that scrapbook of your holiday, now you finally have time and can’t make excuses for other things you have to do. It will also remind you of what you can accomplish and will inspire you to be more creative in the future. Also it can help you support online businesses by buying the bits and pieces that you need.

I have many more suggestions but I might save them for a follow up post (who knows how long we may be in this situation for!)

I hope you enjoyed this post, check out my others and give me a follow.
