If you don’t already know this film, then you should! The film, based on the bestselling book with some minor changes (as ever book to film adaptations are never the same!)
A recent graduate dreams of being a journalist but struggles to find that first job (don’t we all know that feeling too well!) until she enters a high fashion magazine and works for the boss from hell.
- In the opening montage, I always thought I would be like the other girls, getting up early to find the perfect outfit, do amazing make-up, eat an ultra healthy breakfast. These days I value sleep above all else and consequently I do not straighten my hair, put on amazing make up, or spend longer than 3 minutes making my toast in the morning!
- I wish I lived in New York and worked at a magazine company. Not this one obviously.
- Emily Blunt is amazing in this. If I could play anyone it would be her, he gets the best lines. Also her outfits are incredible. Also it must have been such a fun film to work on.
- 15/20 minutes for lunch is awful! I used to think that 30 minutes was bad enough.
- My favourite story to come out of this movie is that Emily Blunt brought her sister on set where she met Stanley Tucci and consequently they are now married and have babies!
- This looks like fun and is a funny movie, but I would have cried so many times if I was Andrea! Why can’t work places be nice and respectful. It makes me so sad that it is the norm for everyone to be catty and underhand, backstabbing and just mean for no reason.
- Does a grilled cheese sandwich count as dinner in America? I would need more than a sandwich for dinner.
‘Florals, for spring, groundbreaking!’
Miranda Priestly

- Why is no one supportive of her? Yes it is a shitty job, but it is in a publishing company, this will open doors for her.
- I love the make-over she has.
- The real world and adult life is tough! I love the escapism of films.
- I want to go in that Runway closet. Does she get to keep those clothes, or is she borrowing them?
- She needs better friends. They love the freebies that she brings home, they seem more caught up with fashion than her, yet never help her. They then turn on her and decide she is losing herself. Also how dare they play around with her phone when her boss is ringing. Yes her boss shouldn’t be ringing out of hours but never jeopardise a friends job.
- Are hats actually ever in fashion? Who can actually pull of a hat well? I would love to be that sort of person. If you are, let me know your secret!
- Meryl Streep really suits that hair.
- I forgot how bad mens fashion was in the 00s. I mean jeans, trainers, untucked shirt, tie loosely done up?! Turning up to a party wearing a blazer and scarf?!
- What are her working hours? She is woken up before the sun and waits around for the book until 10/10.30?! Thats not cool.
- I wish we saw more of Miranda’s home.
‘Wish me Luck!’
‘No, shant’
Andrea and Emily
- Why is there always a friend who works in an art gallery?
- Why are New Yorkers so obsessed with Paris? Its lovely but couldn’t one of them decide to go to London for a change?!
- I like that she ends it single, she was the person to come to her own rescue and its great for a film to focus on that for once. Same with the brief bit of vulnerability that Miranda shows when she talks about the tabloids and how she is a ‘dragon-lady’ and ‘work obsessed’, things that are rarely written about men in high positions.
‘I’m not your baby’
Andrea
All in all, this is a great film. It has great locations, comedy, drama, friendship and independence. It has depth, it is billed as a rom-com but actually has serious themes played off against lightheartedness to not depress that audience.
If you have not seen it, I highly recommend you go out and watch it now.
